Mission Statement

The mission of the NightHax Cybersecurity Club is to build and sustain a strong community focused on cybersecurity awareness, collaboration, and continuous learning. We aim to empower members to develop their technical skills, strengthen critical thinking, and prepare for success in cybersecurity careers. Our goal is to maintain an inclusive, hands-on environment where all members can share knowledge, explore emerging technologies, and contribute to a resilient and informed cyber defense community.

Goals

  • Create networking opportunities that connect members with professionals across the cybersecurity industry.
  • Introduce members to a wide range of cybersecurity fields, technologies, and career paths.
  • Encourage the practical application of academic knowledge through hands-on experiences.
  • Represent the NightHax community and the Northeast Lakeview College Cyber Defense program with professionalism and integrity.
  • Equip members for success in cybersecurity careers through skill development, mentorship, and collaboration.
  • Cultivate curiosity, continuous learning, and leadership within the community.

Article I – General Membership

Section A: Eligibility

Participation in NightHax events and activities is open to anyone interested in cybersecurity. However, only currently enrolled Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) students are eligible for official membership. Membership includes the right to vote, hold office, and represent the club in official matters.

Section B: Member Responsibilities

  • Represent the club and NLC with professionalism, integrity, and respect.
  • Provide constructive feedback and ideas to support club growth.
  • Uphold the NightHax Code of Conduct.

Article II – Leadership and Governance

Section A: Eligibility

  • Must be a currently enrolled NLC student in good standing.
  • Must have attended at least 75% of meetings/events during the previous semester.
  • Must be approved by the Faculty Advisor(s).
  • Officer positions require a majority vote (51%) from members present.

Section B: Officer Positions and Duties

1. President – Serves as primary representative, leads meetings, oversees operations, and ensures mission alignment.

2. Vice President – Supports President, facilitates communication, and ensures smooth coordination.

3. Secretary – Maintains records, minutes, and documentation.

4. Treasurer – Manages budgeting, fundraising, and expenditures.

Section C: Terms of Office

  • Officers serve for one academic semester.
  • No student may hold the same office more than twice or serve on the Board more than four semesters total.
  • Vacancies trigger a special election unless the semester’s final meeting has passed.

Section D: Board Duties

  • Maintain membership roster.
  • Plan at least one monthly meeting.
  • Coordinate participation in cybersecurity competitions.
  • Prepare upcoming semester activities in advance.

Section E: Advisor Role

  • Faculty Advisors ensure policy compliance and organizational integrity.
  • At least one advisor must be assigned to the club at all times.
  • Amendments and structural changes require advisor approval before a vote.

Section F: Transfer of Leadership

  • Outgoing Board provides records, access, and documentation to incoming Board.
  • Transition ends with the first official meeting of the new Board.

Article III – Meetings

Section A: Executive Board Meetings

  • Held at least once per month.
  • Decisions require a simple majority; advisor-approved decisions must be unanimous.

Section B: General Membership Meetings

  • Held at least once per month on campus.
  • Votes require a simple majority.
  • Only enrolled NLC students who are members may vote.

Section C: Voting Procedures

  • Each active member has one vote per issue.
  • Votes must be announced at least one week in advance.
  • Members may request anonymous ballots.

Article IV – Finances

  • Treasurer manages all club funds under Faculty Advisor oversight.
  • Funds used exclusively for club operations, events, and education.
  • Financial records must be available to the Executive Board and may be audited at any time.
  • All expenditures require Board review and Faculty Advisor authorization.

Article V – National Cyber League (NCL) Events

  • All members are encouraged to participate in NCL competitions.
  • Teams formed to balance skills and provide learning opportunities.
  • Voucher availability is announced during general meetings.
  • Competitive Team eligibility: 75% attendance and good standing.
  • Final team selection is made by the Executive Board with Faculty Advisor input.

Article VI – Code of Conduct

  • Members must conduct themselves with professionalism and respect.
  • Zero tolerance for harassment, discrimination, or abusive conduct.
  • Ethical behavior is expected in all cybersecurity-related activities.
  • Reports of misconduct will be handled confidentially.
  • Violations may result in warnings, suspension, or removal from the club.

Article VII – Amendments

  • Any member may propose an amendment in writing.
  • Amendments require a two-thirds majority vote of the membership present.
  • Faculty Advisor approval is required before any amendment takes effect.
  • Approved amendments shall be documented and made available to all members.

Certification

These Bylaws were reviewed and adopted by the membership of the NightHax Cybersecurity Club at Northeast Lakeview College. They shall remain in effect until amended or replaced in accordance with Article VII.
